EN extended Biography
Julien Herné is a French bass player born in Toulon but based in Paris. He was influenced by his father who played the guitar and made him listen to Bob Dylan, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. What interests him most are the rhythm sections and this is how his love for grooves and trance started.
Bassist like Georges Porter Junior and James Jamerson became major influences, the music of New Orleans and other afro-american styles became the fondation for his own sound. His instincts led him to jazz music in its many different manifestations, but also to the big artists of popular culture. Album such as «Space Oddity» by David Bowie or «Histoire de Melody Nelson» by Serge Gainsbourg will forever remain among his favorites.
His musical tastes may be eclectic but Julien Herné aims to unite these sounds, to build his own musical landscape out of his own sound and his devotion to groove. He has thus become a driving force in many a rhythm section, a highly respected and appreciated sideman for many artists -Vincent Peirani, Emile Parisien, Eric Legnini, Guillaume Perret, Pierrick Pedron, Nicolas Folmer, The syndicate, Manu Katché, Axel Bauer, Frank Woeste, Nicolas Folmer, Fredrika Stahl, Corneille, Ben l’oncle soul, Eric Truffaz, Rémi Vignolo, to name a few.
At the same time, Julien Herné is co-keader in bands such as «117 Elements» with the pianist Tony Paeleman and is the artistic director in Gauthier Toux’ band «For A Word»
